Weddings on film- is it here to stay?

As a wedding coordinator here in Oklahoma, I’ve noticed more couples asking photographers if they shoot film. Film photography is definitely having a moment again, especially with couples who love that nostalgic, romantic look.

Film photos tend to have softer tones, natural skin colors, and a timeless feel that digital sometimes tries to replicate. Because film photographers can’t take unlimited shots, they often shoot more intentionally, which can create really beautiful, thoughtful images.

That said, film isn’t perfect for every wedding. It’s typically more expensive since the film and developing process add extra cost. Couples also receive fewer photos, and galleries can take longer to deliver compared to digital photography. Weddings also move quickly, and digital cameras are often better at capturing lots of spontaneous moments throughout the day.

What I’m seeing most often lately is a mix of both. Many photographers shoot primarily digital but include some film throughout the day. Couples get the reliability of digital while still getting that timeless film look.

So is film photography here to stay? I think so—but more as a special touch rather than the main format. Trends come and go in weddings, but anything that captures emotion and nostalgia will always have a place.
